Destiny 2: The Final Shape DLC goes live, here are the patch notes

Nearly 10 entire years after the original Destiny game launched back in 2014, Destiny 2: The Final Shape — the climactic capstone expansion for the series’ decade-long Light and Darkness Saga — has finally gone live. The Destiny 2 update has officially released and is available to play, with the patch now rolling out on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.

The Final Shape represents a bombastic conclusion to a grand story that’s been building ever since the first Destiny came out, with the space fantasy looter shooter’s narrative introducing players to dozens of nuanced characters and exploring a wide variety of different themes. Now, at the end of its arc, Guardians are tasked with following the Witness — Destiny’s main antagonist that wishes to coalesce the Light and Darkness to bring about a lifeless universe — into the Pale Heart of the Light-granting Traveler itself and thwarting its machinations.

At the core of that effort is Prismatic, The Final Shape’s premier subclass that allows players to combine different abilities and Aspects from different Light and Darkness subclasses into one powerful jack-of-all-trades-style kit (check out some of the best Prismatic builds). Of course, the expansion also features a myriad of new weapons and Exotic gear pieces to chase, along with special new Prismatic-exclusive Exotic class items with a pair of randomly rolled Exotic armor perks. Prismatic, its components, and the new Pale Heart weapons are unlocked during the campaign and its aftermath, while the Exotic class items will become obtainable once Week 2 begins on June 11, after the DLC’s new raid launches on June 7 and is beaten.

Destiny 2 started going through a resurgence in the weeks leading up to The Final Shape thanks to the excellent midseason Into the Light update as well as the announcement of some hugely positive changes the expansion brings (for example, the Power Level grind has been significantly shortened and made considerably less important). Because of that, it’s not surprising to see SteamDB report over 240,000 players jumping into The Final Shape at launch on Steam alone. It’s also not surprising that the DLC’s release has been rocky so far with fans frequently reporting “Destiny 2 servers are not available” errors; thankfully, it looks like a good number of players (myself included) are getting into the game now, though some may still need to wait in a queue.
