Do Galaxy Phones Now Support Latest Google Play System Updates?

Samsung has started to get serious about pushing out major Android updates to make the experience of using its phones more seamless. However, many users have reported ongoing problems with receiving the latest Google Play system updates, as many Galaxy devices haven’t received updates for months.

Fortunately, this issue seems to have been rectified. While many users who were previously reporting this issue on their latest Galaxy phone can download and install the previously delayed Google Play system updates, others are claiming that the issue is still there.

Several Galaxy Phones were stuck on older Google Play system update versions for several months. The issue wasn’t limited to the older models in the Galaxy series either, as newer versions were also left stranded without the latest Google Play system updates, despite running on the latest Android Operating System.

For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S23 Ultra were both sitting on the July 2023 Google system update, while the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 stopped receiving Google Play System Updates in October 2023. Similarly, the Galaxy A52’s pinnacle was the September Google Play system update, while the Galaxy A34 was left stranded on the August Google Play system update.

What’s more, is that all the Galaxy Phones received the same error when checking for newer Google Play system updates, either “the device is up to date,” or “updates are temporarily unavailable.”

Although the root cause of the weird Google Play system update issue has not clearly been understood, and Samsung has not commented on it, it seems the issue has been fixed. While the issue was reportedly fixed in 2023, it reemerged in early 2024, and users were met with the same error when attempting to download the latest Google Play system update.

The affected users were also unable to manually download and neither install nor sideload the latest Google Play System update. Nevertheless, it was fixed before and has reportedly been fixed once again.

However, one thing to note is that it seems that the Galaxy S20 Ultra still shows the error message stating “updates are temporarily unavailable.” It’s unknown when or if this will be fixed by Samsung.

What Are The Benefits Of The Latest Google Play System Updates?

Other than the major Android Operating system updates, the Google Play system update is the most important update Samsung Galaxy phones install, as it handles certain critical system features, mainly linked to Google products.

For example, the latest Google Play system update includes new features added to the Play Store, the ability to scan QR codes in the wallet, and more. Similarly, at the end of 2023, a Google Play system update introduced the ability to pair Wear OS to multiple Android phones and many other useful quality-of-life features that work towards making the Galaxy experience better.

Conclusion

This concludes everything you need to know about Galaxy phones supporting the latest Google Play system updates.  As we mentioned, several Android users also faced this issue in early 2024, but it was rectified by Google. However, if you use the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, then you might struggle when attempting to install the latest Google Play system update.
