Apple has been shipping its iPhones without chargers for years, but does that same fate apply to the retail box of the Apple Watch Series 8?
The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with a couple of in-box accessories, but does that include a charger? Apple unveiled the Watch Series 8 in September 2022 alongside the iPhone 14 lineup. It comes with a number of noteworthy upgrades over the Watch Series 7, including a temperature sensor for improved cycle tracking and Crash Detection that can detect severe car crashes and automatically contact emergency services. The Series 8 also comes with a Low Power Mode that Apple claims can extend the battery life up to 36 hours.
Alongside the Watch Series 8, Apple also unveiled the second-generation Watch SE and the Apple Watch Ultra. While the former is an affordable device that lowers the entry barrier to the Apple wearables ecosystem, the latter is a premium model that comes with a rugged build and is aimed at serious athletes. The Watch Ultra features titanium casing and sapphire crystal glass in the front, and comes with an orange Action button that can be used to launch apps and shortcuts. As for the Watch Series 8, it is available in aluminum and stainless steel casing, and is offered in Midnight, Silver, Starlight, Product Red, Graphite and Gold colors.
The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with limited in-box accessories that include a watch band and magnetic charging dock with an attached USB-C cable. However, it does not come with a charging adapter. This means users will need a power adapter with a USB Type-C port or use the USB-C port on their computer to charge their Watch Series 8.
Charging The Apple Watch Series 8
Apple is known for removing in-box accessories that were once taken for granted, and was the first to get rid of the power brick from its retail boxes for iPhones and Apple Watches. Thankfully, it still provides the magnetic charger free-of-charge for the Apple Watch. It is worth noting that instead of the in-box charging dock, users can also use a MagSafe Duo Charger or an Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock to charge their Watch Series 8.
Those who do not already have a power brick with a USB-C port can buy Apple’s 20W USB power adapter or the Magnetic Fast Charging Dock, especially if they want to invest in an official Apple accessory. However, there are better deals available from third-party brands like Anker or Belkin. Some of these accessories can even charge multiple Apple devices simultaneously, including an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. These are a bit cheaper while offering a safe and efficient way to charge the Apple Watch Series 8.
