Beyond aesthetics, the OnePlus Open phone used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which was the latest processor until Qualcomm announced the Gen 3 version just days later. Fans were looking forward to the OnePlus Open 2 phone this year with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

It was supposed to come out alongside the OnePlus 13 and other phones as the first flagship lineups to use the chipset. The chipset also happens to be the first Qualcomm chip ever to use the Oryon CPU technology that will best Apple’s iPhones.

But the OnePlus Open 2 won’t make appearances until 2025. Various tipsters on X and Chinese social media app, Weibo, supposedly confirmed the information. They also stated the Oppo Find N5 foldable series is also not launching this year, which is disappointing.

No Oppo Find N5 means no OnePlus Open 2

In case you didn’t know, both Oppo and OnePlus are owned by BBK Electronics, a Chinese multinational conglomerate. There’s also the fact that the previous OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 are basically the same device, and possibly intended for different markets.

They both share identical specifications, cameras, hinge design, and displays. So, the absence of the Oppo Find N5 launch this year strongly suggests there likely won’t be a OnePlus Open 2 either. The main differences between the two phones are software-related. You’ll find OxygenOS on the OnePlus Open and ColorOS on the Oppo Find N3. The Find N3 also offers more colors than the Open phone.

You may be disappointed, but take the OnePlus Open 2 and Oppo Find N5 rumors with a grain of salt. OnePlus itself is still silent concerning its phone’s release. Qualcomm also hasn’t confirmed that it is in fact releasing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor anytime soon.

But they’ll most likely show up in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 with improvements from the past phones. It’s not that long a wait. Popular leaker, Digital Chat Station on Weibo, says that the OnePlus Open 2 phone will feature a less visible crease and have a lighter weight.

The inner will also be flatter, and the outer display will have a higher resolution. The periscope imaging feature on the previous phone, which allows for high-quality zoomed photos, will remain the same. It certainly won’t come cheap, as its predecessor came with a high $1,699 price tag.
