EA Sports FC 25 has added its first paid Season Pass, marking the first time in the series formerly known as FIFA has charged users for the privilege of the so called ‘battle pass’.
Gamers can pay for the Season 7 Pass $9.99 (that’s 1,000 FC points) or in the in-game currency (50,000 Ultimate Team coins).
For that they’ll get exclusive content, including team of the season (TOTS) cards and an Immortal Icon card (Franck Ribery) that can be used in Ultimate Team modes.
“This new premium tier is an additional ladder to the standard seasonal ladder available through FC Points and Football Ultimate Team Coins, and will include new tradable rewards, Player Items, Evolutions and more,” the EA Sports FC team writes in a blog post.
You can see the rewards in the image below.
Naturally, there are many gamers unhappy with this development as EA Sports FC is already a premium game. It also is an addition to the Ultimate Team mode which EA profits from considerably with gamers buying player packs and other perks.
And, as IGN points out in its report, this unduly benefits players who’re able to fork out because they’ll be able to use these purchased players in competitive online multiplayer modes.
Opinion
EA maintains the experience is “purely additive” meaning gamers won’t be disadvantaged by not purchasing it. However, it verges the series closer towards games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone, that rely heavily on purchases of these seasons to generate revenue.
However, those are free-to-play games at the base level. EA is essentially asking users to fork out for the AAA game and then once again to get a more enhanced version of the game. And it looks like it’ll be doing it repeatedly.
