I keep talking about how the price of accessing good audio and noise cancellation is going down with each passing day. This Amazon Prime Day is a good time to test this hypothesis as you will find that the price points of many truly wireless earphones have come further down for this sale. One such product is the EarFun Air Pro 3 earbuds with active noise cancellation.

The EarFun Air Pro 3 have a stylish design with slightly long stems coming out of the earbuds. The charging case is compact, but a bit larger than some of the new ones we have seen. The earbuds are touch sensitive and you can tap to pause a song or to take a call. They also fit well without changing the ear tips and as I tried to complete my move goals in the humid July heat, they stayed in place and handled the sweat pretty well. In fact, the company claims these are IPX5 and come with sweat shield technology. But I would not take them into the rain.

EarFun Air Pro 3 has what it calls hybrid ANC which is like an anticipatory bail when you know the noise cancellation might not be top draw. Interestingly, when you plug them on without music you do feel a significant difference in the ambient sound. Using the EarFun app one can change these to ambient mode and normal and you see the ANC here does work, though still letting in some sounds which some of the top-end earphones will be able to plug.

The EarFun app lets you select preset equaliser modes or just tweak the settings as you want. This is not as advanced as the one we saw in the Nothing Ear (2), but works nonetheless. I liked the option to save your custom settings which is not a common feature in such apps. You can also customise what the touch buttons on the earbuds do. Plus, there is a low latency gaming mode that can be activated from here.
With a mid-range pricing, I am usually not expecting the audio quality to be all that great. But the EarFun Air Pro 3 went against by expectation by offering a very versatile listening experience. I say versatile because the earphones themselves are almost neutral. But when you use the equaliser to adjust bass or treble it steps up to those needs.

Listening to SS Thaman’s BRO Slokam, I could step to a bass boost and enjoy the song how it was envisaged. Then for Aima Baig’s Funkari I could move to the other side of the spectrum and go vocal first with a more treble-heavy setting. The Air Pro 3 made listening to both these compositions and everything in between quite easy on the ears. With my favourite podcast, Empire, the earphones were good enough to make me realise that the episode I was on was recorded remotely as I could hear the tunnelling ambience in which the guest’s audio was recorded. And when I switched to Bombino’s Aitma I could step up on the volume to soak in the Tuareg vibes better and fully exploit the 11mm drivers inside.

The Air Pro 3 offers good clarity while on calls and cuts off a lot of the ambient noise in the room. However, this is also the weak spot of these earphones and I kept getting a cracking sounds in the ear during calls which was quite irritating and something I could not fix.
In a week or so I used the earphones, the battery did not have to be charged even once. The charging case can be charged wirelessly too, another plus point for this price range. The company claims 45 hours of juice, which seems to be true.

If you are looking for a good earphone with noise cancelling, personalised controls and wireless charging, then the EarFun Air Pro 3 is a good option given that is priced at Rs 5,999 at the moment. But this is not a perfect device if you ask me, though the good audio quality will please most users.
