As someone coming from a system where tax compliance is more of a social contract, the American tax system has always seemed weird to me. It’s incredibly complex and layered. There are federal, state, and sometimes local taxes, all with their own rules and rates. On top of that, the tax code is filled with overwhelming loopholes.
If you dread doing your duties, Epson has created a scanner in four different variants that could make the process less depressing. Unsurprisingly, artificial intelligence is not far from it. But this is one time you’ll actually appreciate it more than camera effects and generative images.
Say goodbye to excruciating tax seasons
Epson’s new devices are called RapidReceipt. All of them look like simple scanners. But on closer inspection, there are many differences setting them apart from others. The main model is a rounded and modern design with a white body and a black paper tray. The front part features a touchscreen display with colorful icons for different functions. There’s also a power button with an LED light indicator.
At the top is a foldable input tray where you load your documents, and the scanner outputs it at the bottom after processing. What they do is scan your documents. Then use ScanSmart AI Pro software to read and organize the information into editable PDF format.
Normally, you’d be under piles of paperwork, entering every detail into a spreadsheet and double-checking for errors you’ll most likely miss. It’s unnecessarily tedious. But with the scanner, you’ll get clean and digital data sorted into a searchable cabinet.

The differences between the scanners
Epson is leaning into future-proofing with AI, so the RapidReceipt scanner will work with Microsoft Copilot, Apple Intelligence, and even ChatGPT. In years to come, when these tools get better, your scanner can still benefit from the updates. You can also send your documents directly to your preferred financial software, including TurboTax and QuickBooks.
If you’re thinking of grabbing one, the deals aren’t bad and the device comes in four different models. The RR-600W is the flagship version and the only one to come with a display. It has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 100-page automatic document feeder (ADF), and it can scan up to 35 pages per minute.
If you’re often busy in your office and need high-volume scanning at a fast rate, it’s worth buying. The RR-400W has a smaller 20-page ADF and a slightly slower scanning speed of up to 30 pages per minute. This option is more suited for you if you have limited room or desk space.
RR-70W is much smaller and weighs under 11 ounces. It resembles a long rectangular bar. It’s wireless yet USB-powered, so a power bank could possibly get it up and running. Also, it can scan 15 pages per minute. The RR-60 looks the same, except that it’s the smallest and lightest model under 10 ounces. It can scan 10 pages per minute.
