Unlike the robot vacuum that it replaced for review purposes, Eufy’s S1 Pro’s docking station doesn’t exactly blend in. Its physical size and design catch the eye immediately, but not for the right reasons. It’s pretty tall which means it doesn’t fit into the space we had allocated to the Narwal Freo X Ultra. As such, this device will need to be located in the utility room rather than a corner in the living room or kitchen.

The actual vacuum, however, looks relatively stylish and is slim enough to slide underneath furniture, which is pretty handy. Sleek, black, and shiny, the robot vacuum has a squircle design instead of the circular aesthetic sported by many of its rivals.

With an 8,000Pa suction motor on hand, it’s fair to say that it sucks an awful lot, but in a good way. When in vacuum-only mode, the S1 Pro is a speed demon and completes cleaning the two-bedroom, kitchen, living room, and hallway areas relatively quickly, despite it being a mix of tiles, laminate flooring, and carpets. And when it’s done, it returns to the docking station where it dumps the debris.

The quality of vacuuming is extremely good. Evidence of the ever-shedding cat was kept to a minimum, which isn’t something that every robot cleaner can boast. There have been no random dustballs abandoned midway – everything that gets collected, stays collected.

While the S1 Pro doesn’t have the specialized roller seen on Narwal’s Freo X Ultra, which untangles hair, Eufy’s solution didn’t experience any significant build-up of hair, unlike the RoboRock S7, which needed frequent de-hairing.

One of the S1 Pro’s standout features is its mop which uses ozone water to continuously clean itself as it cleans the floor. It makes for a more hygienic clean, and you don’t need to worry about the roller spreading dirty water in its attempt to mop. Something else that I noticed was a lack of streaking along the floor surface.

Unfortunately, the roller doesn’t quite reach the edges of the room, so you may need to manually wipe where the floor meets the skirting board, as is common with many robot cleaners in my experience.

Navigation via the LiDAR system proved to be effective, with the unit quickly mapping the residence. So far, after six weeks of use, the S1 Pro hasn’t gotten stuck anywhere, and it seems to detect abandoned cat toys and slippers without issue.

Now for the bad news. The S1 Pro is one of the noisiest robot vacuums I’ve experienced. Noisier than the RoboRock S7 and especially so of the Narwal Freo X Ultra. While mopping is pretty quiet, using the vacuum will produce a level of noise that you’ll find difficult to ignore. Watching Netflix without headphones with ANC isn’t something you’ll be able to do, even when suction is turned down somewhat.

The noise continues when the unit docks at its base station. Water and dust are suctioned out, and then the mop needs to be dried, which can take up to five hours. Sure, the drying noise isn’t as intrusive as using the device itself, but it’s still a noticeable humming sound.

Using the S1 Pro became something I would schedule for when I went out rather than relaxing on the couch. I could take comfort that when I returned, it would be to a well-cleaned floor.

One more thing: the S1 Pro uses a cleaning solution, which is added to the water to aid the process of mopping your floor. Unfortunately, it’s in a specially shaped container that, you guessed it, is only sold by Eufy. While the bottle of solution covers up to 12,500 feet of mopping, it’s another thing to consider when purchasing.

Battery

Although the S1 Pro can go about its business for up to 170 minutes, when it runs out of juice, it will head back to the base station to recharge before heading out to complete its mission. Generally speaking, 170 minutes should be more than enough for the average household.

The Eufy app allows you to tweak your cleaning experience, schedule cleans, adjust the maps, add no-go areas, and check if the sensors need cleaning. It’s pretty easy to set up and also lets you determine if certain rooms need extra vacuuming or mopping.

If a particular area needs cleaning, you can select the area option and have that specific spot vacuumed and/or mopped rather than the whole room. You can also choose to have the S1 Pro clean the rooms in a specific order and even adjust the suction power needed for each room.

Some of these functions are duplicated on the docking station, but it’s much easier to just use the app on your Android or iPhone.

Conclusion

$1,499 isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s hard to fault the Eufy S1 Pro for anything other than being overly enthusiastic about cleaning the floor. If you can stomach the occasional purchasing of the cleaning solution and the rather noisy vacuum and drying functions, then Eufy’s S1 Pro will perform the cleaning tasks with gusto.

You’ll marvel at how well the Eufy S1 Pro cleans your floors, especially after upgrading from an older unit. You can pick up Eufy’s S1 Pro directly from Eufy for $1,499 on June 19th, and on Amazon from July 1st.
