The popular open-source smart home platform, Home Assistant, just gained another integration. Eve, the German smart home company with a wide variety of products, is now part of the “Works with Home Assistant” program.

In short, this means you can now enjoy seamless integration and enhanced control of Eve devices directly from Home Assistant. Eve’s commitment to the Matter standard is what makes this possible. With Matter 1.0 officially announced and the certification of products just around the corner, you’ll want to learn these terms to understand how your current and future smart home gear fits into the Matter smart home.

If you’re unfamiliar with Matter, it enables direct communication between devices and Home Assistant. That means you can connect devices over the internet with Ethernet and Wi-Fi, but also Thread, which is a wireless protocol specifically for smart home devices. Eve has already certified a wide array of Matter-over-Thread devices, and the Works with Home Assistant program tests products to guarantee compatibility.

Here is the full list of Matter-over-Thread devices currently certified by Eve:

Eve devices are classified as “Local Push” in Home Assistant. Local Push devices offer direct communication, meaning Home Assistant is notified of state changes the instant they’re available. This differs from “Cloud Push,” which requires communication to happen through the internet before Home Assistant is notified.

The “Works with Home Assistant” program also recently gained integration with Reolink, a smart home brand known for security cameras. Just like Eve, you can easily integrate many Reolink devices into your Home Assistant setup, keeping everything under local control and respecting your privacy.

The “Works with Home Assistant” program isn’t just a casual thing. It has a strict certification process to make sure everything plays perfectly together. Both Eve and Reolink are good matches for Home Assistant’s values of “Privacy, Choice, and Sustainability.” Eve joins hundreds of other brands that integrate with Home Assistant, and it’s one of 13 that are close partners.

Keep in mind that Eve is still in the process of transitioning its full lineup of devices to Matter, so you may not have compatibility with Home Assistant for everything right away.
