The celebrated Matter smart home standard finally launched in early October. Still, products need to go through a lengthy certification process before they can gain full Matter compatibility. And it seems that Eve is one of the first companies to complete this certification process.

On December 12th, iPhone owners will receive an update for their Eve MotionBlinds, second-gen Eve Motion Sensors, and Eve Energy smart plugs. This update enables Matter connectivity, allowing you to use your Eve products with any app or voice assistant of your choosing.

This is a groundbreaking moment for Eve. Previously, the company’s products were HomeKit exclusive. But with Matter compatibility comes support for Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and Alexa.

If you don’t already know, Matter is a “universal translator” for smart homes. It allows different products to work together regardless of their branding—future updates may make Google Nest products compatible with the Apple HomePod, for example. Additionally, Matter leverages Thread, which may increase your smart home’s responsiveness and range.

Note that the December 12th update is exclusive to Eve’s SmartBlinds, Motion Sensors, and Energy smart plugs. Other Eve products will receive this update in the coming months.
