The Motorola Razr series dates back to the days of feature phones, and it is perhaps one of the most iconic flip phone models of all time, though I’d argue that it is simply the most iconic. Think about it, which other flip phone has been more of a household name? That’s why it was such a genius move when Motorola brought the name back for the debut of the clamshell foldable segment.

Along with Samsung, Motorola was one of the first players in the space and they’ve come a very long way since then. This year, we’re expecting the Motorola Razr 50 family of devices, also known as the Motorola Razr (2024) series in some areas, and we now know we can expect the devices to launch early next month.

Early July is a later launch than the previous generation had, as those smartphones launched on June 1st, 2023. Perhaps Motorola is ready to fight Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Flip 6 in the market and an earlier launch might not be to its advantage. Maybe the Lenovo-owned company might want to make certain tweaks to its marketing strategy. Either way, July is going to be a busy month for foldables.

Motorola’s 2024 Razrs Are Coming With A Few Notable Upgrades Over Last Year

We’ve been getting more and more leaks and there’s not too much that we don’t know about these smartphones, but they look set to be very solid across the board. An argument could be made that not only are these devices significant upgrades over their predecessors, but they might be better clamshell value than Samsung’s Z Flip 6, which has had its specs leaked.

The Razr 50 is more than doubling the cover screen diagonal to 3.63 inches, which is the biggest change. It’s rumored to be switching over to a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X (specifically made for dual-screen devices) from a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in last year’s phone, so hopefully that will be a big upgrade. The other specs are rather respectable, and mostly stay the same.

The Razr 40 Ultra’s massive cover screen was usurped by the recently released Honor Magic V Flip, but the Razr 50 Ultra seems set to match that with an equally massive 4-inch cover display. The inner display gets love too, with the refresh rate jumping to 165Hz. Both rear cameras are being boosted to 50MP and the battery and charging are also being upgraded. Motorola is paying attention to perfecting its formula.
