Codenames leave us anticipating Nothing’s next phones
Before the Nothing 2 series launch, both phones had two codenames each. However, only one of their names stood out globally. Nothing 2 bore “Pong”, while the 2a model was “Pacman”. Perhaps, that’s the same tactic Nothing is using now.
Leakster Dylan Roussel shares on X that two new phones are coming this year. Although he doesn’t specify when exactly, he has dropped their supposed codenames: PacmanPro and Tetris.
It’s safe to say that PacmanPro will be a special edition of the 2a model, and Tetris may be the Nothing 3 phone. That is if we’re going by the previous codenames and a recent announcement. Early in March, Nothing launched a 6-month contest where their user community will redesign the 2a phone collaboratively. The project timeline is to conclude in July, although the company has scheduled a community update for April 18.
Could upcoming Nothing releases be earbuds?
Users have taken to X and other platforms to share their thoughts on Nothing’s upcoming releases. Some say that they might not even be phones but the brand’s signature earbuds. They may be right, considering that Nothing recently posted an image of a beetle and a yellow frog on X.
The brand has used bugs to represent products in the past. They used a ladybug for the Nothing Ear 1 and a beetle to tease the Nothing Ear 2 device last year. So, it’s possible the new devices may be earbuds—or at least one of them.
Since there have been no leaked specifications or additional images to give us clues, we’ll have to wait until April 18 to see who’s right. Either way, it’s not like we’re expecting nothing (get it?). Personally, I think they’re earbuds since the company has only just released the Nothing 2a on March 5 this year.
Based on their history, it’s too soon to launch another phone. The Nothing 1 phone came out in March 2022, while Nothing 2 debuted in July 2023. Their pattern is to release at least one phone each year, although that doesn’t mean they can’t surprise us.
