There was supposed to be an event on January 11, 2022, in honor of Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2200 chip with AMD RDNA 2 graphics. But that event never happened. Samsung has since provided comments to BusinessKorea clarifying what’s what.
We are planning to unveil the new application processor at the time of launching a new Samsung smartphone,” a Samsung Electronics official said. “There are no problems with the AP’s production and performance.”
In other words, though Samsung ghosted its own Exynos event, the chipset’s future remains certain as can be according to its maker. There’s a chance the company decided the unveiling it had lined up wasn’t a big enough event and wanted the one-two punch of a phone to help more effectively sell the overall vision to consumers.
In case you weren’t in the loop on the canceled January 11 event and didn’t know it was a thing to begin with, here is the initial tweet that started the hype train:
It’s not every day an event just goes missing, but at least Samsung’s provided a bit of clarity as to why it did — even if said clarification came after the fact.
While we wait for the next big chipset from Samsung, it’s worth noting the company has no shortage of existing tech out on the market. Check out the best Samsung laptops and best Samsung phones to see what’s already out there.
