Apple has updated its Final Cut Pro app collection, with the Mac version gaining Image Playground and iPad benefiting from a portrait mode, among other changes.
On Thursday, Apple released a trio of updates to its Final Cut apps, including both iPad and Mac versions of Final Cut Pro, as well as the Final Cut Camera app. For two of them, they get to enjoy an Apple Intelligence integration.
Final Cut Pro for Mac
For the Mac version of Final Cut Pro, version 11.1’s release notes in the Mac App Store state that users can “Get inspired” and use Image Playground to generate images based on descriptions and people in the Photos Library. This requires the use of an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15.2 or later to work.
The updates also include the ability to add color corrections and effects to an adjustment clip above the timeline. Doing so applies the changes to multiple clips at the same time.
There are also bug fixes and performance improvements to Magnetic Mask workflows, including a new keyboard shortcut to show and hide the editor.
For audio, there’s the Quantec QRS (Quantec Room Simulator) effect, which can create natural and transparent audio reverbs to simulate real acoustic spaces. Users can also rename audio effects in inspector.
When dealing with multicam shoots, users can see the source of an angle or synced clip in the browser. Lastly, users can move markers in the timeline by dragging them in a clip, or remove them by dragging them out.
Final Cut Pro for Mac is $299.99.
Final Cut Pro for iPad
On iPad, the list of updates includes the same Image Playground integration as the Mac version. The rest of the version 2.2 changes are very different.
For a start, there’s a new portrait orientation available for the iPad version, adjusting the workspace to fit the narrower and taller screen.
Keyboard shortcuts have been added so users can nudge selections, replace elements with a gap, and to lift or overwrite to the primary storyline.
If users are capturing with their iPad, they can now do so in 50fps as an extra option.
Final Cut Pro for iPad is a $4.99 monthly subscription, or $49 per year.
Final Cut Camera
Final Cut Camera for iPhone is now on version 1.2, and has its own updates affecting how you shoot with it.
First, there’s an option to switch to the 48mm telephoto lens, which requires an iPhone 14 Pro or later. Users can also record videos in 50fps.
For owners of the iPhone 15 Pro or later models, they can also play back Log videos in SDR and HDR with the Apple Log LUT applied to it. This will give a more color-accurate color-corrected preview of the captured footage.
Lastly, users with an iPhone 16 can record videos with Spatial Audio.
Final Cut Camera is a free iPhone app, and works with Final Cut Pro for iPad.
