First Matter fridge, more CES releases, & Apple’s 2025 plans

On this episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, we talk about more straggling CES news, Apple TV rumors, GM’s CarPlay issues, and lay out Apple’s 2025 smart home roadmap.

Even though CES 2025 wrapped already, there has been lingering news, with a few more products that slipped under the radar being announced after the show. Those late releases include the first Matter-enabled fridge for the US market.

It’s from Bosch and will allow you to monitor and control the temperature from any Matter app, including — eventually — Apple Home.

We also saw two smart lock updates. Yale updated its Linus L2 Mortise lock with Matter and Schlage released the Sense Pro with UWB.

The Schlage Sense Pro with ultra Wideband will be released in the middle of this year and is the second such smart lock to be announced. It doesn’t support Aliro, but it does support Matter.

Final bit of CES news is the debut of the Flic Duo. This button has two physical controls but also supports a number of gestures too.

Outside of CES, we dig into the recent GM news that prohibits the automaker from selling customer driving data for the next five years. It’s part of a larger story as GM looks to ditch CarPlay in search of more customer data.

Finally, we wrap up the episode with Apple’s 2025 smart home roadmap. There have been a lot of new rumors on Apple’s strategy as of late.

It starts in early 2025 with the release of iOS 18.3 and smart home vacuums before going into the smart home display, a new Apple TV, and an update HomePod mini.
