Fitbit’s Versa 4 and Sense 2 receive a smart update.
The first major Fitbit Versa 4 and Sense 2 update (version 1.184.52) is rolling out today. It adds a ton of highly-requested features, including Google Wallet support and the ability to accept phone calls from your wrist.
Up until now, Fitbit devices have relied entirely on Fitbit Pay. But Versa 4 and Sense 2 users can now make contactless payments through Google Pay (or pull up IDs, tickets, and key cards with Google Wallet).
This update also adds on-wrist phone calls to the Versa 4 and Sense 2—well, kind of. You can only accept calls from your wrist. We haven’t had a chance to test this feature, but it utilizes the Fitbit’s built-in speaker and microphone, so call quality might leave a lot to be desired.
Additionally, users can now turn off the Versa 4 or Sense 2’s screen by covering it with their hand. This is an overdue feature that’s pretty common in smartwatches. That said, you can still turn off the screen using gestures (lower your arm toward your waist), or simply wait for the screen to time out. (Timeout settings are customizable, by the way.)
The Fitbit update (version 1.184.52) began its rollout on November 16th. It should be available to all Versa 4 and Sense 2 users. Open your Fitbit app, tap the “Today” tab, select your profile photo, and find “Device Image” to install the update.
