Ford Underestimated How Much You’d Want an EV Pickup (Again) – Review Geek

The exciting new 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid pickup truck is so affordable and popular that you can’t even order one anymore. It’s essentially sold out, as the company recently confirmed it has temporarily stopped accepting all orders for the truck — both hybrid and gas versions — until later this summer.

It’s no secret that Americans love pickup trucks, and the Ford F-150 has been one of the top-selling vehicles for years on end. However, Ford still managed to grossly underestimate how much interest there’d be in an EV pickup.

First, the company had to halt reservations for the new F-150 Lightning electric truck after receiving over 200,000 orders. Now they’re doing the same for the gas and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) Ford Maverick. As a reminder, the new compact Maverick truck starts at $20,000 and comes in a regular gasoline engine or a hybrid EV capable of 42 MPG.

According to the report, Ford will stop taking new retail orders on the 2022 Ford Maverick on January 27 to focus on existing orders, so you only have a few days left to try and find one. Customers could still manage to spot one at a dealership, but they’re few and far between. In a statement to The Verge, Ford said orders would resume this summer, but those will all be for the 2023 Maverick.

There was plenty of excitement when the little Ford Maverick made its debut back in June of 2021. New and used vehicle prices are at an all-time high while customers are looking for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Combining the capabilities of a truck with the benefits of a PHEV is a great idea, which is why by August, Ford received over 100,000 orders for the Maverick.

Due to overwhelming (but not surprisingly) demand, Ford won’t take any more orders until later this summer. For now, the company is working hard to fill the backlog of orders and deliver trucks to eager customers. Basically, good luck getting one anytime soon.
