Forgive the Price Hike? T-Mobile Is Offering Free Voice Lines

Yesterday, we reported on a price hike from the folks over at T-Mobile. Regarding it, there was good news and bad news. The good news is that most people won’t be affected by it. However, the bad news is that it’ll affect a whole bunch of legacy plans, and by $5 per month per voice line. That could potentially hit hard for users with multiple lines.

T-Mobile says that the move was necessary, due to rising costs and I’m not going to argue that. I’m sure they don’t want the bad press though, so a new promo from the company couldn’t come at a better time. If you fulfill certain conditions, you’ll be able to claim a free voice line via the T-Life app, so let’s talk about that instead.

T-Mobile Is Giving Out Free Voice Lines to Select Users

As much as we’d love to rant and rage about the price increases that subscription-based services throw in our faces on a regular basis, it typically doesn’t get anything done. That’s why the most powerful thing you can do is to vote with your pocket. However, there’s a chance that T-Mobile doesn’t want you to do exactly that, so it wants to remind you of all the good things that it regularly has on offer for you as a carrier.

The brand has just commenced a new promotion, which gives its users the chance to claim a free voice line through the T-Life app. The most important thing to know is that this promo has specific eligibility criteria, so it is targeted to only some of the carrier’s users. It is also a limited time deal, so if you’re eligible and you don’t act quickly, it’ll be gone with the wind.

The criteria that T-Mobile has used to pick out eligible customers isn’t exactly clear-cut, so the best thing you can do is just open up the T-Life app and see if the offer is available to you. It’s possible that a lot of customers on legacy plans are eligible, which would likely make this more obvious as a means to assuage them.

There’s Some Fine Print Involved With This Free Line Promo

This is a pretty sweet deal so it shouldn’t be surprising that there is some fine print involved that might make it a little less sweet for you. The first thing you need to know is that you’re going to have to pay a one-time $10 “device connection charge” and you’ll need to bring your own device for the deal. Not the worst. But at the same time, you may have to pay certain fees or taxes on certain plans. That’s another downside.

Oh, and if you’ve already benefitted from at least two free lines from T-Mobile, you might find that you can’t claim the offer. If you have the maximum number of voice lines as well, that is another circumstance under which you won’t be able to take advantage of this. And one more: if you have a voice line that was canceled in the last 90 days, you’ll need to re-add it or forget about the free line.
