Fossil Gen 6 gets hyped up despite not running Wear OS 3

Fossil is starting to hype up the upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch, which promises to continue Fossil’s pretty good adventure into Wear OS smartwatches.

It’s better and it does more and it’s faster, obviously. But it’s not going to be running Wear OS 3, and that casts a long shadow on any new non-Samsung wearables this year.

The biggest that we are excited about, regardless of software, is the processor onboard for the Fossil Gen 6. It should be using the long-awaited Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform, which will likely be one of the biggest upgrades in wearables we’ve seen in quite some time.

Aside from that, Fossil says their new watch is taking everything about the admittedly good Fossil Gen 5 and giving it an upgrade and makeover, whether that’s in fitness tracking, wearability, smart technology, or customization.

It should be a very solid contender, but remember according to Google directly we won’t be seeing any devices running Wear OS 3 besides Samsung’s new watches for about a year. That’s a bummer for anyone that wants to buy something not from Samsung, and definitely puts some partners at a big disadvantage.

But hey, maybe Fossil can pull it off and make something that you’ll want with older software. And if they can guarantee a Wear OS 3 software update a few months down the line, well, that’s not so bad.
