Whenever I head off on vacation, I’m cognizant that I don’t speak the local language, which means I’ll once again struggle to chat with baristas in the coffee shops. My so-called excuse for this is that I’ve been waiting for Samsung to launch the Galaxy S24, which is loaded with AI-enhanced features, one of which is the Interpreter app, which translates speech and text in real-time. This means that even this bumbling tech reporter may be able to order a latte in Spanish without an issue.
Got a Galaxy S24 in your pocket? Join us after the break to learn how to set up the Interpreter app and make your traveling experience much easier.
About The Interpreter App
Launched as an app with the Galaxy S24 series, the Interpreter app will make communication on your travels much easier. With more than 13 languages currently supported and more on the way, the Interpreter app could be among the most useful AI functions. And it’s pre-installed on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the S24 Ultra (which we reviewed here). Now, there’s no excuse for ordering the wrong topping on your pizza or not understanding the directions to the beach because you don’t speak the lingo.
With the Interpreter app on your phone, you can chat with the taxi driver to find the restaurants the locals eat at or perhaps the best location to watch the sunset. The world is your oyster so long as you have the Galaxy S24 in your pocket and the language is supported.
We’ve got the step-by-step guide on how to set up the Interpreter app for you in written and video formats below:

Access The Interpreter App
- Pull down the Quick Settings panel from the top of your screen and tap the Interpreter icon.
Choose Languages
- Tap the bottom Microphone icon and select the Language you’ll be speaking with.
- Tap the top Microphone icon and select the language of the person you’re conversing with. Click on Add Languages if you need more options.
Start Translating
- Tap the Microphone icon facing you and speak clearly into the phone. Once the initial speaker has finished speaking after tapping the Microphone icon, the other person’s microphone is automatically activated after that individual is finished speaking.
- The Interpreter app will then display the Translated Text and play an Audio Translation.
Flip View (Optional)
- Tap the Change View Mode icon. This flips the translated text for easy viewing by the other person.
How To Adjust Settings
- Tap the Three Dots in the top right corner.
- Customize the Language Packs and Voice Styles to your needs.
- The Tap to Talk option means that the Interpreter app will only translate what you say after tapping the microphone button.
- Once the translation has begun, the app won’t translate what you are saying, thus giving you more privacy. When the Tap to Talk feature is enabled, both speakers must tap their respective microphone icons each time they speak.
And that’s how easy it is to set up the Interpreter app on your Galaxy S24.
