Galaxy S25 Series Could Be First Flagship Androids With Qi2

Qi2 wireless charging is far from being cutting-edge technology. It has been around for so long that it is simply a shame how underutilized it is in the Android space, especially considering how Apple has fully embraced its MagSafe technology.

Qi2 gives Android OEMs a similar chance, but as of now, only one Android device supports magnetic wireless charging, and that’s the HMD Skyline. However, we could potentially have the chance to see that change next month, with the first mainstream Androids joining the club. The S25 devices could be the first flagships with Qi2 support.

First Things First; Qi2 Doesn’t Always Mean Magnetic Wireless Charging

Before I get into the actual gist of things, I think it is extremely important to make something clear. Whenever we hear “Qi2”, we think of magnetic wireless charging, and I’ve been guilty of that for the longest time. However, it was only recently that I learned that a phone can support Qi2, yet not support magnetic wireless charging.

The culprit for this confusion is Qi2 profiles. The “standard” profile is the Extended Power Profile, which has 15W power and doesn’t have anything to do with magnets. Then, you have the Magnetic Power Profile, which is the one we’ve all come to know and love as “Qi2”.

So, if you hear that an Android phone supports Qi2, you’re going to want to make sure that it supports the Qi2 that you’re looking for in the first place. Right now, only the HMD Skyline does.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series Will Have Qi2 Support; Exact Profile Unknown

Now that I’ve explained the state of Qi2 and its profiles, this next part will make a little more sense to you. Ice Universe has reportedly stated, through X tipster Jukanlosreve, that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will have Qi2 support. That’s good news since it means that the company will at least be keeping up with the times.

However, it is completely uncertain as to whether Samsung will be opting for the Magnetic Power Profile. If not, Qi2 support doesn’t make much of a difference to us consumers, as all it means is you’re guaranteed to get 15W wireless charging, which Samsung was already doing in the first place.

For now, only time will tell whether Samsung will adopt the Qi2 profile that we expect, but I won’t be holding my breath. The company hasn’t been that progressive in quite some time.

The Advantages Of Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Charging Are Numerous

The most obvious reason to get yourself a smartphone with support for magnetic wireless charging is that you’ll be able to place your phone on your wireless charging pad and it’ll snap into perfect alignment without needing to waste time adjusting it yourself. It also opens up a world of Qi2 wireless chargers that can hold your phone up so you can easily look at the screen while it charges.

That’s just one reason though. The magnetic nature of the right Qi2 profile gives you the opportunity to use all sorts of new smartphone accessories, such as cooling fans, power banks, kickstands, car mounts, and so many more.
