Galaxy Z Flip And Fold 6 To Carry On Charging Like It’s 2018

This 25W charging speed is similar to what Samsung offered on last year’s Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 models. This means Samsung is not increasing its charging capabilities on its latest foldable generation despite offering faster 45W charging on some of its (more recent) mainstream Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung has been conservative with charging speeds across its foldable lineup. We had the initial and immediate jump to 25W, the very next generation after the original Galaxy Fold. But since then, it has been 25W for wired charging.

This understandably could disappoint prospective buyers who might have been hyped at the idea that 2024 could have been the year that the following Galaxy Z series would finally jump to 45W.

Bigger for the Flip

While 25W is on the slower side for a flagship in 2024, it’s not that slow, either. Official ads claim the Z Fold 5 can charge from 0-50% in around 30 minutes at 25W. As such, a full charge would take closer to 1.5 hours. Compare that to the ancient days of simply charging directly to a USB port at 4.5W (or 2.5W, yikes).

At least for the batteries themselves, rumors indicate the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be getting a bigger 4,000 mAh battery this year, which is up from 3,700 mAh on the Z Flip 5. Of course, this way, charging may feel a bit slower than previous Flip models. However, Samsung seems to be set on utilizing a dual-cell design to mitigate heating and allow for consistent charge rates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to retain a similar 4,400 mAh battery capacity.

Just in Time for the Olympics

Whether you think 25W is fast enough or not, the certification listing seems to be dead set on that charging specification for Samsung’s next foldables. Remember that public information about the listing came exactly two months before the company is expected to unveil both foldables at an event in Paris on July 10th.

For those wondering about the release timeframe, this mid-July release seems to be timed to get the new foldables on the market right before the Summer Olympics (also set in Paris) starts on July 26th. Samsung will likely showcase its latest innovative mobile products at such a major global event.

Beyond charging speeds, other rumored details include a boxier design and titanium frame for the Z Fold 6 and some camera upgrades for both models. Samsung may also release more affordable “Fan Edition” variants in 2024.
