Game Porting Kit 2: Better shader debugging, cross-platform

New Games such as Remedy’s Control and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows are coming to the Mac

Apple has announced a new version of its Game Porting Kit for macOS, and with it “Control,” and Ubisoft’s latest “Assassin’s Creed” titles will be available, with many more to follow.

The new Game Porting Toolkit 2 will introduce improved Windows compatibility as well as shader debugging tools, giving developers a better way of repackaging games originally created for PC. Following release, it will be easier to bring games to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest installment of Ubisoft’s franchise, will be available on Mac and iPad on November 15. Ubisoft’s next-generation Anvil game engine will introduce support for the Apple ecosystem and will be able to take advantage of Metal 3 and Apple Silicon features such as hardware-based ray tracing.

With this latest set of announcements, Apple has demonstrated its interest in supporting developers’ effort to give iPad and Mac gamers more options to choose from, as well as better ways of porting Windows games.
