HyperX is being acquired by HP for $425 million. The companies announced the deal today, which will see brand Kingston and former parent company of HyperX sell the titular headset brand but retain its other technologies, such as DRAM, flash and SSD products.
HyperX is a brand of gaming accessories that makes some of the best Xbox headsets and best PC gaming headsets around, as well as plenty of other gear for players to enjoy like microphones, keyboards, mice and mouse maps.
The HyperX brand will soon complement the best HP laptops, specifically the gaming-focused Omen brand. Enrique Lores, President and CEO of HP, noted that the deal will allow HP to expand its gaming brand substantially, stating “We see significant opportunities in the large and growing peripherals market, and the addition of HyperX to our portfolio will drive new sources of innovation and growth for our business.”
John Tu, Co-founder and CEO, Kingston stated that “Both of our companies thrive because we focus on our employees and share the same core values and culture. David Sun (Co-founder and COO) and I saw the possibilities for the HyperX business and its employees and we both realized that this change brings a brighter future for HyperX.”
The acquisition is expected to close sometime in the second quarter of 2021, pending regulatory review as well as other necessary procedures and conditions.
