When Google Gemini first arrived on the scene, I wasn’t much of a believer. “Why not just use ChatGPT?” I asked myself, especially as it started off without an Android app. However, Google has done a whole lot to improve Gemini and now, I find myself using it here and there.
If you’re a Samsung Galaxy user, you’ll know that Gemini works very nicely with essentially all Google services and apps, but the same can’t be said of third-party apps. Samsung is going to be in a privileged position with the Galaxy S25 series though, as it seems Gemini will get extensions for a bunch of Samsung apps.
The Galaxy S25 Phones Will Have Google Gemini That Can Access Samsung Apps
I have a Samsung Galaxy device and since I’m not the kind of guy who pays a lot of attention to my calendar, I just use whichever comes with the device. In this case, that’s Samsung Calendar. If I want to quickly add an event to my calendar, I can’t get it done with Google Gemini and that’s because it only supports Google’s first-party Calendar app. As a Samsung user who doesn’t want to have to get a new app, that can be annoying.
Good news though. The Galaxy S25 series is being unveiled on January 22nd and is going to have a focus on AI. Now, we’re finding out that the focus isn’t exclusive to Galaxy AI but will include Gemini too. According to chunvn8888 on X, Google Gemini on the upcoming flagships will get extensions that let it work directly with a bunch of popular Samsung apps, and that’s huge.
What that means is that you’ll be able to talk to Gemini to get it to do simple things for you in apps like Samsung Calendar, Samsung Notes, Samsung Reminder, and more that weren’t specifically name-dropped. That should make Gemini a lot more versatile for Samsung loyalists—important timing since a big Bixby upgrade seems to be on the way.
What Are Some Actions That Google Gemini Will Be Able to Perform in Samsung Apps?
At the moment, we only have confirmation regarding three Samsung applications that have extensions planned for Google Gemini. For now, three is enough though. With the screenshots provided by the leaker, we can take a look at what Gemini will be able to perform through these apps.
- Samsung Notes: Gemini will be able to create notes for you, as well as summarize them. You will also be able to retrieve specific notes based on their content or titles.
- Samsung Calendar: Gemini will be able to create, edit, and delete events from your calendar. It will also be able to take a look at images and extract data from them to create a calendar event. You can also ask Gemini to list out the events you have within a custom date range.
- Samsung Reminders: Gemini will be able to create reminders tied to a specific time or date. You will also be able to edit, search for, and delete reminders.
