As the Pixel 6 series is proving popular the world over, it seems that Google is putting one of its rumored upcoming projects back in the oven for further baking. Yup, we are unfortunately talking about the Pixel Fold device that we’ve been looking to see take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series but which is now said to have been canceled.
The report of the Pixel Fold’s demise, at least for the time being, comes from Ross Young from the Digital Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) who says that multiple sources have confirmed that the Pixel Fold will not be launched.
The report goes on to say that Google was worried that the Pixel Fold wouldn’t be able to compete on price with what would be its main rival, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which when combined with the ongoing worldwide shortage of chips and other materials, probably resulted in a no-brainer decision from the search giant.
While it will be made available to current Pixel handsets, it’s likely that Android 12L will make its foldable debut on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. Hopefully, this means that when Google does decide to launch a foldable, it will be fully-baked and up-to-scratch without any of those niggling bugs that Pixel devices tend to have. This means that there is still no direct competitor to Samsung in the foldable smartphone segment, and
