In case you missed it, today, Google released its first teasers for the upcoming Pixel 6 and flagship Pixel 6 Pro smartphones. Revealing key details about the Pixel 6’s striking new look, AI, and Google’s very first system-on-chip known as “Tensor” that will power these devices.
While this isn’t an announcement for the Pixel 6 itself, Google did confirm that both phones are coming this fall, which matches several leaks and rumors we’ve heard lately. As for the teaser, we got a few photos showing off the stunning new design, which users will either love or hate, along with details on the in-display fingerprint sensor and those huge cameras on the back.
Here are some specs confirmed by Google (screen sizes and amount of cameras) along with information from earlier leaks.
Pixel 6
- 6.4-inch AMOLED screen
- 8GB of RAM
- 128GB or 256GB of storage
- 8-MP selfie cam
- Primary and Ultra-wide camera sensors (rumored at 50 MP and 12 MP)
- 4,614 mAh battery
Pixel 6 Pro
- 6.71-inch LG-made pOLED screen
- 12GB of RAM
- 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of RAM
- 12-MP selfie cam
- Triple camera array with telephoto zoom (rumored at 50 MP, 48MP (telephoto), and 12 MP)
- 5,000 mAh battery
While those specs aren’t confirmed, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll be seeing something similar to that come later this fall. And if you look close in Google’s teaser video above, the time and date of 9:30 were shown several times, possibly hinting towards a September 30th launch date.
Most of the information revealed today is about the new Tensor system-on-a-chip (SoC) that powers the phones, not to mention on-device machine learning and artificial intelligence.
A huge benefit of an in-house designed processor is Google can refine the software and hardware to work more closely together for an improved experience. The search giant says that the AI and ML models work directly on the phone. Plus, the Tensor chip will significantly improve overall phone and camera performance, not to mention better voice commands, dictation, translation, and captioning.
The highlight of Tensor is that it can process Google’s most powerful AI and ML models directly on #Pixel6.

According to coverage from The Verge, who got a first-hand look at these phones, Google’s Tensor chip allows for some incredible new features. For example, stating that Google’s own Greg Osterloh showed that speaking to type was nearly instantaneous. Better yet, he could use the keyboard to edit words or make changes inline at the exact same time as he was speaking. The Pixel 6 with Tensor can accept both input methods at the same time.
We don’t have too many other details right now, but Google has already confirmed a fall release date. Expect a late September launch event, with a global release date in October.
