Google will reportedly release Android 12 on October 4th

The fifth and final Android 12 beta build rolled out a few days ago with OTA files and factory images of the release candidate ready to download, but the big question remaining is when Google will announce the public release. It’s being reported that October 4th could be the big day which if true, could also have some bearing on the upcoming Pixel 6 launch date.

According to the XDA’s Mishaal Rahman, a leaked internal document says that the Android 12 public release will be announced on October 4th. The document in the tweet above is meant to help OEMs to ship hardware with up-to-date software, and it also reveals that Google will post Android 12 to AOSP on October 4th. Why is this significant? Because Google historically posts the AOSP build the same day that it launches the stable release of its software.

If you are wondering how the date is relevant to the Pixel 6 series, well it’s because Google is extremely unlikely to launch its newest flagship phones running on Android 11 out of the box. While there’s some amount of wriggle room when it comes to the accuracy of the leaked internal document because it’s unclear if it’s set in stone or perhaps a proposal on Google’s part, the later we get in September without a launch date the more likely it becomes.
