Google’s Pixel Buds A will be a cheaper wireless earbuds, come in a new forest green color

Google’s Pixel line of phones has shifted into a more budget-friendly territory lately, so wouldn’t it make sense to do the same for their wireless headphones? Well, that might be in the cards according to a new leak, suggesting Pixel Buds A are on the way.

    Google Pixel Buds A

The A branding in Google’s devices typically denotes a more affordable option, like what we’ve seen from Pixel phones. This leaked Pixel Buds A set of earbuds will likely follow that, delivering a similar experience to the $179 Pixel Buds but with a few trade-offs for a cheaper price tag.

What exactly will those compromises be? Well, that’s hard to guess this early. Audio quality is generally something that will get downgraded first, and the wireless charging might not make sense on a budget device. But some things, like the Google Assistant integration, seem like they’d be too integral to cut back on without ruining what the Pixel Buds can actually do.

But while downgrades are expected, a new spec of these Pixel Buds A will be a new forest green color option, along with a color scheme that’s a little more thorough than the existing Pixel Buds. Google’s current models have colored cases, but the inside of the case is still black; that reportedly won’t be the case (no pun intended) with the new models.

It’s also tricky to guess where the pricing might end up with these. A $99 price tag effectively puts the Pixel Buds A below competition from Apple and Samsung, but still slightly above the slew of available headphones that float around the $50 mark on Amazon. Some of those make for some pretty solid options, too, but I think it’d be a stretch for Google to come down that far in price and compete with those options. A flat $100 markdown to $79 might be a little more realistic.

Either way, expect to see these leak a bit more over the next few months before a potential Google I/O 2021 announcement.
