Grant funding to bring AI and emerging technology graduate students into regions

An Australian Government funded program is supporting businesses and government organisations in regional and other areas to bring talented students into their teams.

The Next Generation Graduates Program targets students in the artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies fields. The program encourages them to tackle real world challenges and build foundational skills in these disciplines. With opportunities for in-depth training and collaboration with industry, students can become career-ready specialists in their field.

Artificial intelligence is a rapidly growing industry with the potential to expand our economy significantly in coming years. CSIRO estimates that digital innovations including AI have potential to contribute $315 billion to Australia’s GDP by 2030.

The Australian Government identifies artificial intelligence and emerging technologies like robotics and biotechnology among critical technologies in our national interest.

The Next Generation Graduates Program involves CSIRO partnering with industry and universities to grow a pipeline of highly skilled graduates. CSIRO has delivered 2 rounds already. A third round is now focussing on ensuring regional businesses and startups have the opportunity to access and develop Australia’s tech talent pool.

CSIRO is now inviting businesses and government organisations to partner with universities to apply for grants to support next year’s graduates. The Next Generation Graduates Program grant round 2023-24 has 2 streams:

  • the regional stream is set to allocate up to $8 million
  • the general stream is set to allocate $7.5 million.

Regional stream applicants will be given priority.

Please review the application guidelines to assess your eligibility.
