Hingham Apple store crash: Victim had gotten engaged day before death

The 65-year-old man who was killed in the Hingham Apple store crash that seriously injured 20 other people had just gotten engaged the day before his death, friends of the victim told NBC Boston.

Reporter for the outlet Eli Rosenberg stated in a tweet that friends of Kevin Bradley said, “All I can say is he was a great man who took care of his family.”

Rosenberg’s tweet continued, “Friends remembering Kevin Bradley, the 65-year-old killed after he was hit by that SUV yesterday at the Apple Store in Hingham. Friends add Bradley had gotten engaged the day before he was killed,” and the reporter tagged the outlet.

Kori Rubino, a woman who said she was the sister-in-law of Bradley’s step-daughter in a Facebook post, stated to MassLive, “Our family is grieving a tremendous loss to an unthinkable tragedy. Kevin was a great man who loved his family.”

The GoFundMe created for Bradley’s family stated he and his fiancé, Kathy McGrogan, were together for more than 12 years, “and she was the center of his world.”

The page also stated that Bradley lived with McGrogan and her daughter — who was only identified as Kelly — along with Kelly’s fiancé, who was identified as Drew, and their children AJ, 5, and Bella, 4.

Bradley, a New Jersey native, was reportedly a “professional who was onsite supporting recent construction at the store,” Apple said in a statement, according to the Boston Globe and Boston 25 News.

Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene after an SUV, a dark-colored 2019 Toyota 4Runner, smashed through an Apple store in Hingham on Monday morning, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.

Police arrested 53-year-old Bradley Rein for the crash, and Rein is currently being held by Hingham District Court on a bond for $100,000 after pleading not guilty to charges of reckless homicide by motor vehicle. Rein stated during his arraignment that his foot became stuck on the gas while he was driving through the parking lot of the Derby St. Shopping Plaza.

In court, prosecutors said the SUV had traveled through the plaza parking lot at a “consistently high rate of speed” before entering the store.

Following the crash, prosecutors said Rein voluntarily went with them to be interviewed. According to prosecutors, a voluntary breathalyzer test administered at the police station registered 0.0. Rein told officers he had no medical issues and that the car had no mechanical concerns he knew of.

Rein was also charged in December of 2020 in Roxbury, Vermont, for driving under the influence and crashing his motor vehicle, prosecutors stated during the arraignment. He was then issued a citation, which was later expunged, officials said.

In total, 16 people were transported to South Shore Hospital from the scene, and one person walked in to the hospital from the scene, the hospital stated in a Monday afternoon press release. There were 20 individuals injured in total. Hospital officials said during the press conference that among the injuries, there were head traumas and “mangled limbs.”
