History Continues to go Hand in Hand With Modern Technology

It may be thousands of years since the ancient Egyptian civilization was the greatest on earth, but it still has a huge impact on mainstream culture today. Various periods of history are alive and well in the modern era, thanks to technology.

Technology often gives us new ways to learn about and experience history. This can range from slot games that provide a taster of the themes, to virtual reality offerings that take people back to ancient times.

Slot Games Often Turn to History for Inspiration

The slot market is packed full of countless genres, but it’s clear that history themes are hugely popular among players. Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead is one of the most successful slot games of all time, and it has inspired other similar offerings. Now, some of the best book slots include Legacy of Dead, Book of El Dorado, and Book Of Kings. These titles use themes from the past and introduce historical periods to slot players.

There are numerous ways that slot developers explore historical periods. Sometimes, they’ll go for a general use of the imagery from that era. Other times, they’ll delve into mythology and use famous deities as inspiration. Ancient Greek-themed games, for instance, usually focus on gods such as Zeus and Poseidon. All these games give players a preview of the history and may sometimes inspire them to learn more.

VR Allows People to Experience History in New Ways

Virtual reality is beginning to allow people to experience things that they never would have had a chance to before. Skydiving, tightrope walking across buildings, swimming with sharks – there’s no limit to what’s possible when wearing a VR headset. Along with giving people the chance to participate in high-octane activities safely, VR is being used to take people back in time to see what life was like thousands of years ago.

One of the best VR history adventures currently on offer is the VR expedition to the Great Pyramid of Giza at Westfield Stratford City in London. The Horizon of Khufu takes viewers back 4500 years and features many legendary figures from that time. There are similar projects that allow people to venture into ancient Greece and explore some of the legendary buildings of the era such as the Acropolis.

Simulations Could Allow People to Relive the Past

Even though some of the VR offerings around now are immersive and incredible, the technology is still in its early stages. It’s amazing to think what could be possible in another ten years’ time when the graphics and capabilities have progressed more.

It’s not out of the question to speculate whether we could one day enter simulations that transport us back to the distant past. These could allow us to live like the people did in those days and experience their lives from a first-person perspective.

It’s exciting to think that developers still appreciate the past even as technology becomes more advanced than anyone could have ever dreamed. There will soon be even more ways for people to learn more about historical periods.
