When you think of foldable smartphones there’s always a catch – you either compromise on battery life or the phone is a tad bulkier than a normal candybar handset. Not so with Honor’s brand new Magic V2, however, because it packs in what is consider the norm for regular handsets with its 5,000mAh battery. Despite the increased battery capacity, the Magic V2 also manages to snag the title of ‘World’s thinnest foldable’ thanks to it being just 9.9mm thick when folded and a staggeringly thin 4.7mm thin when extended. Join us after the break for the details.
Unlike the rather ridiculous Magic V Purse concept, the Magic V2 will be released to global markets such as Europe, Asia, and Africa however, as is the norm, it won’t be sold in the US.
First, the specs. Powered by Qualcomm’s excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Magic V2 also boasts 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of built-in storage. The outer display is 6.43-inches big with a 91.2% screen-to-body ratio, 2376 x 1060 resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 2500 nits peak brightness. And, despite the Magic V2 not featuring a built-in stylus, both displays offer stylus support.
The inner panel is of the OLED persuasion with a 2344 x 2156 resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1600 nits peak brightness, and boasts 402ppi. The Magic V2 features 3840Hz PWM Dimming and has been awarded TUV Rheinland Flicker Free certification. As with the Magic 5 Pro, the Magic V2 also has a Circadian Night Display, which also helps those with sensitive eyes avoid undue strain from blue light.
Where the likes of Samsung often shortchange the camera department, Honor has once again gone with premium quality sensors on the rear panel which includes a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens with OIS, and a 20MP telephoto lens which also has OIS. There’s a 16MP wide camera sensor present on both the inner and outer displays.
Packing in the largest battery yet seen on a foldable, the Magic V2 has 5,000mAh and also benefits from 66W SuperCharge wired charging. There’s support for the likes of Bluetooth 5.3, and dual-band WiFi up to 6E, and there’s a wraparound antenna to ensure great reception. Symmetrical stereo dual speakers with IMAX Enhanced certification are present, and there’s also support for 24but HDR MIC stereo voice reception. The Magic V2 launches running MagicOS 7.2 out of the box which is based on Android 13.
Weighing in at just 231g, a feat which is aided by the new super-light titanium hinge, the Magic V2 will go on sale in Black, Silk Black, Silk Purple, and Gold colorways.
The Magic V2 is expected to launch globally during Q1 of 2024 with pricing and availability details announced closer to the time. That being said, it’s believed that the Magic V2 will be similarly priced to its predecessor, the Magic Vs which costs £1,399 (~$1,758) in the UK.
