Are you a student? Want to use Apple Music? Listen up! Here’s how to get the streaming service — with Apple TV+ — for half off the regular price.
Apple Music has multiple plans for people to choose from, including one designed specifically for students. In the world of online subscriptions, student-specific plans have become fairly common. Spotify’s student plan is among the most iconic — giving people access to Spotify, Hulu, and Showtime for just $4.99/month. Amazon Music Unlimited has an attractive option, too, letting students get access to its full music streaming service for only $0.99/month. For a student working with a limited spending budget and trying to save as much as possible, subscriptions like this can be a huge help.
In the case of Apple Music, its plan offerings are pretty similar to any other streaming service. The Individual plan is available for $9.99/month and provides access to one Apple Music account. If someone steps up to the Family plan for $14.99/month, they get Apple Music accounts for up to 6 people. Both of those plans come with free trials, access to over 75 million songs, offline listening, and features like Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio for an enhanced listening experience.
While those plans are perfect for many people, eligible students are better off getting the Apple Music Student plan. Apple notes that the Student plan is available for half the cost of the Individual one, coming in at just $4.99/month. Students get all of the same features that they would with the Individual plan, except they’re getting it for 50 percent off. As if that wasn’t enough, Apple Music Student also bundles Apple TV+ for no extra cost. Apple TV+ normally costs $4.99/month on its own, and it includes titles like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Greyhound, and more.
How To Get Apple Music Student Plan
There’s no doubt that Apple Music Student is an excellent value, but how does someone go about signing up for it? For someone that’s brand new to Apple Music, the process is as follows: Open the Apple Music app, tap ‘Listen Now,’ tap the ‘Trial’ button on the page, and then choose the ‘Student’ option. For someone that’s already paying for the Individual plan but wants to switch to Student, it’s slightly different. Open the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad, tap the user’s name at the top of the screen, tap ‘Subscriptions,’ tap ‘Apple Music,’ and then tap ‘Student.’
Once the Student plan has been selected, users will need to tap ‘Verify Eligibility.’ This takes them to the UNiDAYS website, where they’re asked to verify their enrollment in a supported college (often done by logging in with someone’s online college ID). Once enrollment has been verified, people are taken back to the Apple Music app to finish signing up for Apple Music Student.
Towards the end of the year of someone’s Apple Music Student plan, they’ll be asked to reverify that they’re still an enrolled student (this message should appear in the Apple Music app). To complete the re-verification process, open the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad, tap ‘Settings,’ tap the name shortcut at the top of the screen, tap ‘Subscriptions,’ tap ‘Apple Music,’ tap ‘Verify your student status,’ and follow the on-screen instructions. The Apple Music Student plan can be used for a maximum of 2 years. Once someone is no longer a student or they reach the 2-year limit, their Student plan will automatically convert to Apple Music Individual for $9.99/month (and they’ll lose access to Apple TV+).
