WhatsApp added a “Favorites” feature in 2024 that lets you pick your most important conversations and filter them out from all the noise. It makes it easy to find the people you actually want to talk to.
Your Most Important Conversations All in One Place
I’ve added over 300 contacts to my WhatsApp, but I only text about 10 of them regularly. The problem is that those ten chats that are important to me are always getting buried under group messages and random conversations. Half the time, I don’t even realize they’ve messaged me until way later. And if I’m the one reaching out, I spend a good few minutes just hunting them down on my chat list.
I tried using the pin feature to fix this, but WhatsApp only lets you pin up to three chats, so I had to make some tough choices about which friends to cut. Thankfully, WhatsApp’s new favorites feature changes everything. I can add as many contacts as I want to my favorites, making it super easy to find the conversations I need.
How to Manage Your Favorites on WhatsApp
To set up your favorites on WhatsApp, open the app and swipe down to reveal the filters tucked into the search bar. Tap on “Favorites” and hit “Add to Favorites”.
You’ll see a list of all your contacts on WhatsApp; tap to select the ones you want to add to your favorites and hit the check button once you’re done.
That’s it! Now, when you want to talk to one of your best friends, you won’t have to scroll through your chat list looking for them, you can just use the favorites filter, and it will show you only the contacts you selected earlier.
After you’ve added your favorites, you can do some housekeeping by tapping the “Manage Favorites” button.
You can switch the order in which your favorites appear by holding the “=” button and moving the chat to the desired location.
This won’t affect the Chats tab, but it will change the order in which your favorite contacts appear on the Calls tab.
You can remove a contact from your favorites by hitting the delete button.
You can also add a new favorite contact by tapping the “Add Favorites” button and selecting a contact.
How to Make the Most of the Favorites Feature
There is no limit on how many favorite contacts you can make, but to get the most out of the feature, I’d advise keeping your favorites list small. Maybe somewhere between 5 and 10 contacts. After all, it defeats the point if your favorites list is so bulky that you need to search to find the chat you want.
Also, do regular checks. If there’s someone you are not texting quite as often, don’t feel bad about taking them out of the favorites tab to make way for others.
WhatsApp’s favorites feature makes it easy to keep up with the conversations that matter most to you. Definitely give it a try! And while you’re at it, why not explore some of these lesser-known WhatsApp features? They might surprise you.
