How To Screen Record Like A Pro On A Samsung Galaxy Device

Here’s How To Record Your Screen As A Samsung Galaxy User

If you’re using any Samsung Galaxy device, you should have the ability to record your screen in just a few seconds. Let me show you how to do this. The first thing that you need to do is pull down your notification shade to show the Quick Settings icons. Here’s a tip: swipe down with two fingers to go straight to the full Quick Settings menu instead of having to see the notifications section first.

Now, you should see a Quick Settings icon called “Screen recorder”. Tapping that is the first step to recording your screen. Once you’ve pressed it, you’ll have a window pop up, asking whether you want to start recording with the screen recorder. At this point, you can choose your sound recording settings as well as whether you want taps and touches on the screen to show up in the recording.

Press “Start recording” and that’s it. You’ll have a video recording going on your Samsung device. Using the toolbar in the top-right corner, you can pause or stop the recording. You should be able to access the recording from the Screen Recordings folder in your Gallery.

Want To Be A Pro At Screen Recording? Here Are Some Tips

Now, that’s the basic procedure to screen recording, and most people know at least that much. But I want to make you a pro at screen recording, so I’m going to show you some tricks that give you a little more control over what you record. I am doing all of this from a Galaxy S22 Ultra, so it should work on any relatively modern Samsung device.

Change The Video Recording Quality

You have the option to set your video recording quality to Low (480p), Medium (720p), and High (1080p). If I’m not mistaken, it is set to Medium by default, but who doesn’t like high-quality recordings?

To access the settings for screen recording, you can swipe down the notification shade to show the Quick Settings and long-press on the Screen Recorder icon. This will send you straight to the relevant menu. Alternatively, you can go to Settings, Advanced Features, and then Screenshots and Screen Recordings.

Here, tap on Video Quality and change it to either Low, Medium, or High, as you please.

Change The Default Sound Recording Option

When you start a video recording, you can easily choose whether you want no sound, only the media sounds, or whether you want the media sounds and your microphone to be captured.

However, if you’re getting tired of switching from the default option each time you start a recording, you can change what the default option is from the Screenshots and Screen Recordings settings menu. There, go to “Record Sound” and choose your preferred setting.

Mark Up The Recording To Highlight Specific Things

When recording, you might want to draw on the recording to demonstrate certain things to whoever might be watching it. Doing this is actually pretty simple and you have to start a recording to access the feature.

The toolbar that appears when a recording is ongoing has a pencil icon. Tap that, and you’ll gain access to the markup tool. By tapping the colored circle that appears to its left, you can choose the color of your markup pen and even change the size. Tapping on the pencil icon a second time will exit the markup tool.

Add A Tiny Video Of Yourself To The Recording

You can even add a little portrait of yourself, Loom-style, using your phone’s selfie camera. When you have a recording ongoing, tap the little person icon next to the pause button and it’ll instantly add a little circle with your selfie camera’s input.

You can also freely drag the circle around, in case it might be obstructing anything. In the Screenshots and Screen Recordings menu, you can even change how small or large this selfie window is.

Change The Default Screen Recording Location

Finally, you can even change where your screen recordings save by default, from the Screenshots and Screen Recordings menu. Remember, a long press on the Screen Recorder icon in Quick Settings can take you there right away.

It’s the very last option in the menu, and tapping on it will let you browse through your device’s directory to choose another location to automatically save screen recordings to.

Your Samsung Device Can Do A Lot More Than You Might Think

This is exactly why I love Android. You might have felt like the screen recording feature was very basic and didn’t have any aces up its sleeves, but as you can see, there’s a lot of customization in that single feature, and that extends to a lot more than your Samsung phone can do.
