Depending on which brand of smartphone you use, the last card on the left of your home screen will show you the Google Discover feed that aggregates news, sports, stocks, and entertainment information that is tailored to your preference. Not so with Samsung smartphones and tablets, though, where users needed to install a third-party launcher if they wanted to switch to Google Discover instead of the default Samsung Free (formerly known as Samsung Daily) feed. Thankfully, with the advent of One UI 3.1, users can now decide for themselves without the need to install a third-party app.
Join us after the break where we show you how to switch to Google Discover on your new Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3 with just a couple of taps.
The prime requisite is that your Galaxy smartphone or tablet needs to be running on One UI 3.1. Once you’ve verified that it is, you can check out the visual guide above or follow the simple steps below to either switch from Samsung Free to Google Discover or even to disable the news feed card entirely.
- Long-press any open space on your home screen
- Swipe all the way to the last card on the left
- Tap the toggle to disable the news feed card entirely, or select Google Discover instead of Samsung Free
- Press Home and the Google Discover card will propagate before your eyes
If you have a third-party launcher installed, you will have to make One UI 3.1 your default interface in order to switch to Google Discover. You can do this by following the steps below:
- Open Settings
- Click on Apps
- Tap on Choose Default Apps
- Press Home App
- Select One UI as your default launcher
- Press Home and you should see the One UI 3.1 interface once more
