How To Transfer Playlists Between Apple Music And YouTube Music

Has a recent price increase made you want to switch music streaming services? There are plenty to pick from, with the big three in Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music all offering pretty compelling platforms and subscription packages.

But switching is a pain. You’ve probably spent months or years building playlists in your library, and the thought of losing those might make you want to tough out your pain points. Fortunately, you’ve got some options to transfer playlists over so you don’t feel quite so locked in to one service.

Transfer with Soundiiz

Soundiiz is the most widely featured way to transfer playlists between services. You sign up for the service, get your accounts linked, and start transferring.

The web interface at soundiiz.com offers a pretty basic platform for viewing and managing your playlists and libraries. You can link lots of different platforms here (with different limitations depending on the platform; YouTube Music can’t access your albums, for example) and get those playlists set up across any service that you have set up.

If you’re looking for just doing simple transfers, Soundiiz will let you move playlists one by one. They do have paid, premium plans that let you transfer playlists in bulk, do some extra management on those playlists, and actually keep them synced across services. I don’t imagine there’s a ton of people actively using multiple services like that, but I could see it being useful if you’re primarily a YouTube or Apple Music user and your friends send you Spotify links. You’d be able to add those songs to a playlist and have them sync over to your preferred service without any extra clicks.

Soundiiz does also offer an Android app if you’d prefer to do things in-app. iOS users will have to stick to the website, however.

Other options

You do have some other options if you’d rather go the app route or you’re just not clicking with Soundiiz. The Google Play Store has a few other apps like FreeYourMusic if you’re wanting to go the app route, and services like TuneMyMusic has a semi-functional free plan. It’s not quite as robust as what Soundiiz offers for free, but it does have a simple way to export playlists as a text file, which could be nice if you’re just going to do things the old-fashioned way.

And that brings us to your last option: rebuilding those playlists manually. I know, I know, that’s probably not the best option, but it is free and gives you a chance to clean out old playlists you don’t want anymore or make changes to your playlist rotation that you’ve been putting off.

Either way, they are just playlists, and you can always recreate them on another service if you’re really unhappy with Apple or Spotify at the moment.

Have any of your switched music services recently? Did you ditch your playlists, or did you bring them over to your new service with any cool tricks? Sound off and let us know in the comments.
