Still feeling the effects of the ongoing US ban, Huawei is coming out swinging at the tail-end of 2021 with positive vibes and the promise of new smartphones (foldable and regular) and the European launch of its HarmonyOS fork of AOSP.

In an interview with Romania’s Adevărul, Huawei’s Derek Yu revealed that the company plans on bringing HarmonyOS to Europe in 2022.

As we edge towards the end of 2021, the Mate 50 series is still nowhere to be seen although the Huawei executive stated that a new model would be released in 2022, but didn’t clarify if it would launch outside of China. Huawei’s Mate X series of foldable smartphones first saw the light during MWC 2019, but sadly the advent of the US ban meant that it didn’t get released as planned. A new Mate X series foldable is slated to be announced sometime during 2022 though.

Its reach may be diminished at the present time, but that doesn’t mean that Huawei isn’t staying current with its designs and hardware. It’s just the effects of the ban on its access to components and software that make it a shadow of its former self in the global smartphone segment. Its new hardware will still create excitement, though, and we are looking forward to seeing what Huawei can pull out the bag.
