Huion Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) Review

The Huion Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) has been hotly anticipated by many who want a 16-inch drawing tablet but with added resolution. Thankfully, the Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) is now here, boasting a number of key features – yes, including a QHD display – that make it stand out. This is my review after over a month of testing.

QHD display

Feature highlights include the aforementioned display resolution, of course, with its 2560×1400 Quad HD output. Combine that with the relatively compact 15.8” size and you get high-density pixels per inch, making for an incredibly sharp image. This is especially great for artists, as clear and accurate lines make a world of difference.

Color accuracy is a win here, too, with the Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) covering 99% sRGB and 90% Adobe RGB, with a factory-calibrated ΔE

An interesting drawing surface

The glass surface itself has an impressive finish, improving the overall feel of drawing as the pen glides over the surface. It’s nuanced, but you quickly become used to it, making it difficult to go back to drawing tablets with a lower-quality display surface.

With that said, the glass finish does add a little softness to the overall image, though this is effectively balanced out by the increased resolution. Overall, I’d say the effect is certainly a sharper image than the Gen 2 model, but a notch softer than on untreated 1440p glossy displays.

This pen is mighty

The included PW600L pen is another highlight. With over 16,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt support, it’s easier than ever to convey everything from lighter strokes to hard bold lines. The PW600L also has customizable buttons which work well with common shortcuts.
In use, this pen is very responsive and a joy to use. I experienced no hiccups or moments of frustration. The PW600L performed flawlessly, providing a seamless drawing experience.

Speaking of customizable buttons, another one of the Kamvas 16 (Gen 3)’s big highlights is its six shortcut keys and two dials. These greatly enhance the speed of production, as users can quickly hit a key or rotate a dial to make adjustments to their brush, canvas, layers, or even just zoom. There’s an impressive versatility here that everyone from new artists to established professionals will find utility for.

My only other nitpick when it comes to the Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) is the included stand. While it’s nice to have it included, I’d have appreciated a stand with more adjustability, an important factor when it comes to drawing.
