Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro review: Your post-workout buddy

The pandemic not only pushed people to be more active and lead a healthy lifestyle but also gave birth to several tech fitness brands. One of these brands is Hyperice, which entered the Indian market right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company offers a wide range of smart products to relax your body post-workout or after a long work day. Basically, it aims to help you get rid of your back ache after sitting in front of your PC for long hours. And, I must say, it surely lives up to its claims.

I have been using the Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro for quite some time and absolutely loved the product as it helps reduce muscle stiffness in just 10-15 minutes of usage. Of course, the relief comes at a price. The Hypervolt 2 Pro comes at a price of Rs 38,999, which not a lot of people would like to spend on a gadget like this. The company seemingly understands that and offers an affordable option in the form of Hypervolt Go 2 for Rs 18,999.

Now, with a good price comes some great features as well. This smart body muscle massager lets users connect it with their mobile phone using the app called Hyperice App, available on both the Google Play store and Apple App store. It is quite easy to connect the massager with the app. Just turn on the Bluetooth > find the device > and you’re done. The good thing about the app is it provides great suggestions by tracking your movement all day. By tracking I mean, it tracks your movement using the Apple Health app and shares suggestions accordingly.

In my case, it tracked that I had heavy strength training at the gym and shared suggestions accordingly. The app asks for permission to access the health app, and it is totally up to you to provide access or not.

While the app shared recommendations as per my movement throughout the day, I mostly used the basic attachment since it was enough to relax my tight muscle after a chest, back, or leg day.

However, I do believe that the speed could have been slightly lower. There are 5 speed levels but the lowest one was too heavy me, so I had to be extra careful to not use it on bony areas or weaker body parts like the neck. There are also a few extra attachments bundled with the machine for different body parts, but for me, the basic one felt right almost all the time.

After using the smart massager for the last several weeks, I overall found it to be great for larger muscle groups like legs and back and not so much for small muscles due to high acoustic vibrations.

One issue though: single-person usage of the apparatus for back massage is difficult. Balancing and using the massager in areas like the neck, shoulder, and back can be slightly inconvenient without the help of someone. Personally, I also found the massaging roller on the heavier side. This, I feel, should be an issue for people who have heavier builds and bigger muscles, but for me, it wasn’t always convenient.

What I really liked, though, was the battery life. On a single charge, the Hypervolt 2 Pro lasted for almost around 10 days for me. I mainly used the massager for around 15-minutes a day, mostly after workout.

Should you buy it?

The concept of smart massager is still evolving in India and Hyperice is an early adopter of the trend. Probably because of this, its products are also a little expensive. The Hypervolt 2 Pro is the most expensive model the company offers in India right now. Is it worth the price? Well, I feel that if you are among people who spend a lot of time in the gym and then often deal with sore muscles, it could be worth it for you.
