I Felt Lost in My Own Home Before This Little Label Maker. And It’s on Sale for Black Friday

Though I’ve lived in my current home for over two years, I still wouldn’t know what any of the light switches control if it weren’t for the little labels I printed out and slapped beneath them.

Before I started using the Brother P-touch Cube Plus to label, well, everything, I often felt lost in my own home. I’d startle myself by accidentally turning on the garbage disposal when I was hoping for the light above the sink, or plunge the room in darkness when I thought I was turning off a fan. One time, I caused utter chaos when I mistakenly cut the power to an outlet in my fiance’s office, effectively ending his gaming session mid-play. (He forgave me, but I’m still mad at myself for that one.)

Luckily, this tragic misstep happened around the same time I started testing label makers for our guide and fell in love with the easy-to-use P-touch Cube Plus. During my testing, I labeled every switch in my home with the help of Brother’s smartphone app—and I haven’t flipped the wrong switch since.

Our pick

This label maker trades a built-in screen and keyboard for an easy-to-use smartphone app. It’s compact and portable, prints quickly, and automatically cuts labels. And Brother’s design software offers plenty of customization options.

Budget pick

A pared-down version of our top pick, this model prints labels just as well but lacks bells and whistles like an auto-cutting mechanism and a rechargeable battery.
