Launched in 2009, Bitcoin is the world’s first decentralized cryptocurrency. In the beginning, nobody took Bitcoin very seriously.
In fact, a computer programmer spent 10,000 BTC to buy two Papa John’s pizzas on May 24, 2010, when the asset was worth $0.0041 only.
However, the cryptocurrency soon began ascending in value.
Ten years ago, it was an opportune time to invest in Bitcoin, as the cryptocurrency had become popular by then and had been attracting the attention of the broader trading community.
Have you ever wondered if you had invested $10,000 in Bitcoin ten years ago, how much it would be worth today?
Well, the price of one BTC was $245.17 on March 24, 2015, i.e., exactly ten years ago. If you invested $10,000 to buy Bitcoin then, you would have acquired 40.78 BTC coins.
Ten years later, the price of one BTC has hit $88,131.29 as of March 24, 2025, as per Kraken’s price feeds. The same investment would be worth $3.59 million.
It means that an investment of $10,000 in Bitcoin ten years ago would have offered you more than a 350 times return by today.
The recent surge in Bitcoin’s value has been driven by its institutional adoption, spurred by the launch of Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024 and President Trump’s executive order to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in March 2025.
However, Bitcoin proponent Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy, recently rebranded to Strategy, has been on a BTC buying spree since 2020. As of March 24, Strategy holds 506,137 Bitcoin worth approximately $44.6 billion.
Saylor recently predicted that Bitcoin’s price will hit $13 million in 2045. If his prediction comes true, your modest investment in 2015 would be worth $530 million in 2045.
