Ikea’s New Chargers Come In Any Color So Long As It’s White

Ikea’s SJÖSS chargers are designed to be efficient and portable

IKEA’s SJÖSS comes with polycarbonate plastic housing. It’s often the ideal material as it has higher heat and impact resistance than the common Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) material. They’re also lightweight, with the 1-Port model weighing 3 oz. The 2-Port model is 1 oz heavier, which is expected considering its form factor. The larger model uses extra internal components.

Both chargers are USB-C types, with the most obvious physical difference being the ports. One charger charges a single device, while the other powers two devices at a go. Also, one is technically faster than the other, but it really just depends on your device’s battery. A larger battery takes longer to charge regardless of how much wattage your charger has got. So, the speed is less noticeable than with a smaller battery.

When you’re charging only one device, it receives the maximum power. But if you’re using both USB-C ports simultaneously, the power output per port drops to 22W.

Charger and cables sold separately — but there are stickers

The SJÖSS 30W 1-port and 45W 2-port USB-C chargers cost $7.99 and $14.99 respectively. However, you’ll buy the cable separately. It supports the LILLHULT USB-C to USB-C cable, which costs $7.99 and is from another IKEA product line. It’s 59-inches long and comes in dark gray. You don’t need to buy it if you have an existing cable that supports the wattage your device needs.

Both chargers support three protocols; Power Delivery (PD 3.0), Qualcomm’s Quick Charge (QC4+), and Programmable Power Supply (PPS). Their combination ensures that the chargers efficiently power diverse devices, adjust for different sizes and brands, while optimizing charging efficiency and reducing heat through real-time communication.

Really, it’s a “one stone kills two birds” design. It’s a great buy if you want to eliminate excess chargers. That is, if you don’t mind waiting for your device’s to charge one after the other when they’re down at the same time.

I can’t forget the plain stickers that come in orange, blue, and green. IKEA says they’re for personalising the charger, which makes sense. You don’t want it to get mixed up with someone else’s. Plus, It’s easier to identify if you misplace it.

You can buy IKEA’s SJÖSS fast chargers from their official website or pick them up at the physical stores. Home delivery is also an option. But it’s understandable if you’re hesitant. The chargers haven’t built a long reputation yet. Fortunately, there are other established brands that may offer you more peace of mind, including Anker and Amazon Basics.
