Did you wake up to a suspended Instagram account in the last 24 hours? If so, it’s not just you. Today, we’re seeing a massive uptick in reports all over Twitter from people saying their Instagram got suspended. Here’s what we know and what you can do about it.

Currently, it looks like Instagram is mass-suspending users, but we’re not entirely sure why. When suspensions or Instagram account deactivations happen, there isn’t always a clear reason. Sometimes the screenshot will mention terms of service violation. Other times, users are left out in the cold. Rumors are swirling that this could be some type of bug or mistake.

This morning thousands of new reports emerged on Twitter, with people confused as to what’s going on. A quick look on DownDetector shows a huge increase in reports that Instagram is down, having account problems, or otherwise inaccessible to users.

Starting on October 31st, we’re seeing a large volume of complaints regarding an Instagram outage. Considering there’s no easy way to contact the company, most users have nowhere to turn. I received a similar notice yesterday but was able to get my account back quickly. Unfortunately, that may not be the case for everyone, especially with how many suspensions we’re seeing this morning.

If you received a notice that you’re Instagram was suspended today, it may even have a popup letting you appeal the decision. If so, go ahead and fill out the form.

As you can see in the screenshots above, you won’t be able to access your Instagram account. However, some users can verify themselves with a phone number or email, enter a code, and submit a claim to retrieve the account. While this is still a developing story, Instagram confirmed on Twitter that they’re “aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Even if Instagram manages to fix the problem, we’re anticipating thousands of users won’t be able to access accounts for the foreseeable future. If so, you can fill out this appeal form for a quicker response from the internal Instagram team.

If you can log in, you may also notice a decrease in your follower count, as many of your followers likely got suspended this morning. Again, we’re not entirely sure what’s happening at the moment, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details.
