iOS 16/Apple Watch Update Issue

Hi all,

Got an Apple Watch update issue. My partner has an iPhone 12, and has an Apple Watch S3. In the last week, she has upgraded to iOS 16, but noticed that there were some communication issues between Watch and phone after the update (sleep schedule randomly activating on the Watch, messages being received on the iPhone, but no visual or audible notification coming through on the watch). We then noticed that there was an update available for the watch, so update we did…. Or tired at least.

We set the update off, and it said that the watch needed to be unpaired to perform the update. So (connected to it’s charger), we started the process…. 2 days ago. The phone then started to download a 558mb update, which over Wi-Fi, took about an hour. When the download finishes, we get an error message (so this is after the hour download): “Unable to Verify Update: The watchOS update couldn’t be verified because you are not connected to the internet'”. We are (obviously) connected to the internet. We have restarted the phone and the Watch on multiple occasions: I’ve also tried to pair it to my iPhone 12 Pro, but to no avail. The update it’s trying to install is watchOS 8.0.7: both our 12’s are up to date (we updated yesterday to the latest).

The watch, despite being a S3, was working perfectly prior to this-but now we’re stuck in an endless cycle where the watch won’t pair until it has received its update, and it can’t receive the update because it errors out as the download completes. We can get to the point where it starts to pair, the animation on the screen turns into the medallion looking badge with the watch details written around the edge, but then it stops there and waits for the download to complete. Then we have to exit, it then unpairs the watch and restarts it once more.

Any help appreciated-we had a perfect functioning watch 2 days ago, and now it’s essentially bricked-i refuse to give in and buy a new watch (well, it’s not an option anyway), when there was nothing wrong with it!

Thanks in advance,
Dan
