iOS 18.2 adds new language support to Apple Intelligence in these five places

iOS 18.2 has arrived, bringing a redesigned Mail app, Photos app fixes, and more. Some of the biggest changes, though, are with new AI features. And for the first time, Apple Intelligence now offers native language support in five places outside the US.

iOS 18.1’s US English requirement for Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence first debuted in October with iOS 18.1. That update came with a variety of features for summarizing notifications, enhancing writing, removing unwanted objects in Photos, and much more.

In its launch though, Apple Intelligence came with two main requirements:

  1. You needed an AI-compatible iPhone
  2. Your device had to be set to US English

Users outside the US could still access iOS 18.1’s new AI features (except the EU and China), but only if they chose US English as their system-wide language.

It wasn’t great, but Apple promised that expanded language support would be coming soon to Apple Intelligence.

Now, in iOS 18.2, the first language expansion has arrived.

Five new language settings added in iOS 18.2

If you live in any of the following five locations, Apple now supports localized English for you:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • UK

This means your iPhone can be set to the specific English variants in each of these locations and get fully-optimized Apple Intelligence support.

To update your device language setting, go to the Settings app, then General, and finally Language & Region.

While iOS 18.2 may not bring Apple Intelligence to any languages that radically differ from the previous US English support, localized English in five major territories is a nice addition.

As for non-English options, those are in the works. Apple has committed to an April release date for new language support as part of iOS 18.4.

Have you tried the new Apple Intelligence support in any of the just-added places? How is it working for you? Let us know in the comments.
