iPads 2024 to be thinner and lighter, Apple will test OLED prototypes internally

Premium smartphone manufacturer Apple is planning to get a thin OLED screen to its iPad line-up. The sleek-looking device is expected to launch in the coming years.

According to a report by
GSM Arena, Samsung and LG – known as the only two primary display suppliers – are working on creating new OLED panels for the upcoming 2024 iPads.

After testing the prototypes internally, Apple will decide the launch date for the OLED iPads.

The
GSM Arena report suggests that Apple will use double-stacked OLED displays with two layers of light-emitting diodes, resulting in increased brightness output, for the OLED iPads.

The Cupertino-based company is betting big on the dry-etching process, where gas chemicals are used to remove unwanted material layers from the TFT circuit pattern surface during manufacturing. “This process makes the OLED panel thinner and lighter, reducing the overall footprint of the tablets,” the report said.

The 2024 iPad will also come with a special display coating to make the panel more durable.

According to a report by
The Verge, Apple will introduce 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with an all-new M2 chipset later this year. A new entry-level iPad will feature an A14 CPU, 5G, and USB-C connectivity.

The larger iPad between 14 and 15 inches will be available in the “next year or two.”

In a bid to woo iOS users, Google-owned streaming platform Youtube is now rolling out its much-awaited Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for iOS devices in the coming days.

With this new feature, iOS users can watch YouTube videos in a small mini player while simultaneously browsing other apps on their mobile devices.

All Premium members on iPhones and iPad will have access to PiP for both music and non-music content. To turn on the feature, users will need to go to ‘Settings’ first and then they can go to ‘General’ on their YouTube app and turn on PiP mode.
