The rumored iPhone 17 Air favors a futuristic design over a thicker and heavier look with more battery. But if everyone just throws their phone in a case, won’t the aesthetic be lost? Maybe not, according to this iPhone 17 Air case test video.
The clip shared on social media shows iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air dummy units side-by-side. Then the iPhone 17 Air mockup is placed inside what resembles a version of Apple’s Beats iPhone case designed for the thinner phone with the full width camera bar design.
At a glance, the iPhone 17 Air inside a case may still appear thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro Max without a case. We’re working with a lot of assumptions here, of course, since we’re eyeballing unannounced iPhone model dummy units. Still, if Apple delivers hardware that reflects these rumors, the iPhone 17 Air will certainly be worthy of the “Air” name.
The iPhone 17 Air story did get a bit of a reality check over the weekend, however, when it was reported that early tests show a notable drop in battery life for the thinner model.
For that reason, Apple will reportedly revive its discontinued iPhone battery case as an optional accessory sold alongside the iPhone 17 Air. If true, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Apple launch the iPhone 17 Air several months before releasing the battery case. At least that’s what Apple has done for earlier versions of battery cases designed for specific iPhone models.
You can also extend the battery life of any iPhone with a MagSafe battery for less than $20 or external battery pack if MagSafe isn’t an option.
If battery life is a major concern, of course, the best option is probably literally any other iPhone—although I would bet that the Air battery life still outperforms that of the iPhone 12 mini.
