Last year, Android 15 officially launched to the world on September 3rd, 2024. That was about a month earlier than Android 14 launched the previous year, but that wasn’t enough for it to significantly shake up the plans of manufacturers. This year is going to be very different.
Android 16 won’t even be launching in the second half of the year. The next version of the ultra-popular Android operating system is expected to arrive next month. This means that it is the perfect time to sit down, take a look at your current smartphone, and figure out whether it’ll be getting the update. Don’t worry, we’ve broken that down here.
Which Smartphones Are Expected to Be in Line for the Update to Android 16?
The general availability release of previous Android versions has never been as early as it is this year. In fact, the last time an entirely new Android version number launched in the first half of the year was with Android Honeycomb in 2011.
Android Version | Date of Release |
Android 15 | September 3rd, 2024 |
Android 14 | October 4th, 2023 |
Android 13 | August 15th, 2022 |
Android 12 | October 4th, 2021 |
Android 11 | September 8th, 2020 |
This year’s launch is a lot faster than it has ever been, but as a consumer, that shouldn’t mean much to you. All you need to figure out is whether the update is coming to your device. The list below will help you answer that, so take a good look.
Samsung
Samsung is the most popular manufacturer of Android devices, and with such a rich portfolio, it should be no surprise that several of its devices are going to be eligible for Android 16, based on previous update support windows. The list below isn’t exhaustive, however, so keep that in mind:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 series (including the S25 Edge)
- Samsung Galaxy S24 series (including the S24 FE)
- Samsung Galaxy S23 series (including the S23 FE)
- Samsung Galaxy S22 series
- Galaxy Z Fold 4/5/6/Special Edition

Google owns Android, so it will likely be first in line for the new Android update (though that wasn’t the case last year). It hasn’t been in the smartphone game for as long as Samsung, but it still has plenty of phones that it is ready to support to the next generation of Android.
- Pixel 9 series
- Pixel 8 series
- Pixel 7 series
- Pixel 6 series
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel Fold

Other Devices That Are Confirmed for Android 16
For the first time ever, Google opened up its Android 16 Beta Program to devices outside of its Google bubble. Specific phones were eligible to try out the beta, which essentially confirms that those devices will be getting Android 16. Here they are below:
- Honor Magic 7 Pro
- Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus
- OnePlus 13
- Oppo Find X8
- Realme GT 7 Pro
- Vivo X200 Pro
- Xiaomi 14T Pro, Xiaomi 15
